OF THE...

Our Mission
is to be a cost-friendly semi-year round program that encourages members to adopt an active lifestyle among same-aged peers with the goal of building healthy habits and lifelong relationships by providing safe, recreational swimming activities during practice and adopting a growth mindset for competition.
Our Vision
is to provide meaningful team-based swim opportunities within the community setting to improve skills and techniques relating to confidence and competition to swimmers of all abilities.
About our 'Teams'
Coaches have split swimmers into two sessions to allow those with similar skills to be together during practice. Our teams are based on both age and ability to ensure that incoming swimmers are aware of swim terminology and expectations for each group.
These are not swim lessons. Those who have not participated on a middle school or high school swim team must complete a swim test before participating in this program.
About Stingrays
Norwalk Stingrays Swim Club is the Rec Center's youth swim team for swimmers ages 6-18 years old. The program strives to provide an inclusive and competitive environment for those who demonstrate safety in the water without immediate adult supervision as well as a higher knowledge and interest in competitive swimming.
How to Join
Those with no prior swim team experience must participate in a free swim test. Independent practice is encouraged prior to attempt. Anyone who has passed Norwalk Parks and Recreation Level 3 Group Lessons is eligible to start in session two this spring without a swim test. Current or incoming high school swimmers should start on the "A" team unless otherwise instructed.

Camp
Taking place over six days, camp is coach led with a focus on improvement of the four competitive strokes through drills and technique work.

-
Session 1 helps experienced swimmers learn proper body positioning, timing, and rhythm needed for each stroke.
-
Session 2 is geared to those who are continuing to learn strokes and how to be efficient through the water.
Practice
Practices are set-based to help swimmers increase their endurance and refine strokes, starts and turns needed for competition.

-
Session 1 is an hour and a half long. This allows experienced swimmers to complete a warmup, drill work and main set with additional time to practice starts, turns and finishes used during races. Swimmers at this level will work to apply coach feedback to improve their technique. Swimmers in this session should have swim meet experience and know legal turns and finishes.

-
Session 2 is an hour long. Swimmers must focus as coaches explain the set. Swimmers at this level should be familiar with the four competitive strokes and are encouraged to ask questions about the whiteboard before completing their workout. This session is recommended for our "adaptive", "C" and "B" team members as coaches will direct swimmers based on their understanding of the workout. Swimmers are expected to apply coach feedback to their swimming to ensure their strokes are legal during competition.
Competition
All "adaptive", "C", "B" and "A" team members are eligible to compete in the North Coast Summer Swim League (NCSSL) during the summer season (June to late July).
Swimmers compete in events based on the following age groups: 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 years old. There are no weekend commitments on this team.
