Teaching Swimming

Learn teaching techniques to work with students who move, learn, communicate, and behave differently.

Learn to teach the basic fundamentals of the strokes to your students with emphasis on rotary breathing before arms to help form the natural movement of rolling over onto the back


Work with students as young as 6 months old to learn drowning prevention skills, emphasizing water safety with parents

Learn basic teaching elements to help you be the best instructor you can be for your students

Work with students who are strong swimmers fine tune their diving and treading skills

Start out as a 1-star instructor and with experience and training grow to a 3-star and program director within the Starfish Program

Ages 3-5 years learn water safety and drowning prevention using the curriculum provided to help them understand water safety

Learning to jump into water and get into a back float is one of the primary skills taught. Comfort on the back provides a gateway to many other swimming skills

Learn to use tools and equipment to make the most of your group lesson.

Becoming a Starfish Swim Instructor is so easy!
1. Do you enjoy being around and teaching young children? older children? young adults? adults?
2. Do you feel passion for safety?
3. Do you love the water?
If you answered "YES" to all 3 questions then consider becoming an educator for water safety and drowning prevention!
Coursework consists of 10-12 hours of online learning followed by a one-day in-person session. That's it!
